For someone that has grown up in a Hawaiian family and lived a few years of her childhood in Hawaii. Spam Musubi was an easy snack or meal that was made in our home. It was great to take on camping trips, soccer games, and afternoon snack. If you grew up in Hawaii, you totally get what I'm reminiscing about. It's actually a lot easier to make than you think and can yield 10-12 musubi's.
What you will need:
Spam mold to form your musubi. You can find one here
Half sheets of Nori.
6 cups of cooked white or brown rice. we chose to do brown rice today.
One can of Spam
2 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce
Slice up your Spam, I usually can get about 10-12 slices. Pan fry your slices with your sweet soy sauce. brown on both sides.
I used a spam mold, but you can also use your spam can as a mold by cutting the bottom of the can. Be careful of the sharp edges. Lay down your saran wrap first on your cutting board. Place your rectangle mold on top. Place your nori in your mold (like the picture below), then place some rice, a spam slice, and then rice again. Fold over your Nori and push down gently, when you are ready lift the rectangle piece through and wrap you musubi with your saran wrap.
